Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 26, 2026
ScrollAI is a free AI-news reader. The app can be used without a server login. This policy explains what data ScrollAI collects, how it is used, and how to request deletion.
Data we collect
- Anonymous app identifier. The app creates a random identifier on your device and sends it as an app user ID so the feed can remember progress and personalize ranking.
- Approximate region and locale. The app may send country or region, language/locale, and timezone. We do not collect precise GPS location.
- Product interaction data. We may store story impressions, opens, likes, saves, shares, skips, selected interests, Learn progress, theme/palette choices, and similar app activity.
- Diagnostics. We use Sentry to collect crash, error, and performance data so we can fix bugs and improve reliability.
- Advertising identifier. If you grant App Tracking Transparency permission, the Meta/Facebook SDK may use the IDFA and related app events for ad attribution and advertising measurement. If you decline, IDFA-based tracking is disabled.
- Submitted article URLs. If you use the contribution feature, the article URL you submit is sent to our backend for verification.
- Work profile you choose to enter (Ideas). The Ideas section has an optional profile where you may type your employer name and job title and select a current goal, the kind of work that repeats most for you, how long a daily move may take, and what Ideas may assume about your workplace. These fields are optional, editable and resettable at any time in the app under Learn → Ideas → Ideas profile. Ideas works without them.
Data we do not collect
- We do not require a name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, health, financial, or biometric data to use the app.
- The optional local profile/sign-in experience in the current iOS app stores name and email on your device only. It is not a server account.
- We do not sell personal data.
How we use data
- Provide and personalize the news feed, Scroll deck, Learn, and Ideas experience.
- Choose which daily Ideas suggestion to show you and explain, inside the app, which of your own visible answers it was matched against.
- Measure app usage and improve article ranking.
- Prevent abuse of contribution and feedback features.
- Fix crashes, errors, and performance issues.
- Measure advertising performance only when permitted by your ATT choice.
Third parties
- Sentry for crash, error, and performance diagnostics.
- Meta/Facebook SDK for ad attribution and measurement when ATT permission allows it.
- Original publishers when you open article links in Safari or the in-app browser. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Public model-ranking sources such as Hugging Face and LiveBench when you open the leaderboard feature or related external pages.
- DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com), our AI text provider, for writing article summaries, Learn material and Ideas suggestions. By default these requests contain only public article text and non-personal profession templates — no identifier, profile field or activity of yours is included.
Optional AI tailoring in Ideas
Ideas has an off-by-default setting called “Sharpen for my job”. It is the only feature that sends anything personal to our AI provider, and it does nothing until you turn it on and accept the in-app disclosure.
When it is on, a request to DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com) may include exactly these six items, so the suggestion can be worded for your actual role:
- the job title you entered;
- the employer name you entered;
- the goal you selected;
- one repeated-work label you selected;
- your selected time budget;
- one headline of a public news article.
It never includes your app identifier, your name or email, your reading history, your Learn history, your feedback, or any other field. The data is used only to word that suggestion — not for advertising, not for tracking you across apps or websites, and not to train a model on your behalf.
You can turn the setting off at any time under Learn → Ideas → Ideas profile, and nothing further is sent. The same screen has “Use my reading activity for Ideas” and “Reset Ideas personalization” controls. With tailoring off, Ideas still works: the matching happens inside ScrollAI's own backend.
Retention and deletion
We retain anonymous app data only as long as needed to operate and improve ScrollAI. You can request deletion of data associated with your anonymous app identifier by emailing bhanumahesh1993@gmail.com. See Data Deletion for details.
Your choices
- You can decline App Tracking Transparency permission to disable IDFA-based tracking.
- You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings.
- You can clear local app data by deleting the app from your device.
- You can leave the “Sharpen for my job” setting off, or turn it off later, so no personal field is sent to our AI provider.
- You can turn off “Use my reading activity for Ideas”, or use “Reset Ideas personalization”, in the Ideas profile screen.
- You can request backend deletion by contacting us.
Children
ScrollAI is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
